We are very excited to announce that Douglas Blue Feather will be back to our event!
Douglas is an internationally known recording artist and performer of music featuring the Native American flute. Douglas has received over 40 various music award nominations, has performed on Fox TV and at numerous nationally advertised powwows, festivals, expos, and churches through out the United States. Douglas has been performing for us since 2010 and we are thrilled to have him back for his 7th year!
Last year the public, dancers, drummers, and vendors donated hundreds of items such as toothbrushes, tooth paste, and other personal hygiene items to the children of the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota. This year we would like to continue collecting the essential items these children need. If you have not been to our event, or have not had the chance to meet Christine Birhanzl from the Oglala Sioux Outreach program, she partakes in mission work at the reservation. She makes trips through out the year to Pine Ridge and connects with the children. Christine sets up a booth every year at our event and she sells beaded bracelets, necklaces, and other items made from the children who live in Pine Ridge. The proceeds are then used to purchase essential items like tooth paste, soap, shampoo, etc. If you are attending our event this year and would like to make a donation, we will be collecting the donations again at the pay table. All donated items will be given to Christine so she can take them to the children. It is very touching what Christine does and this is our way of giving back and playing a part in making a difference in these children's lives.
There have been several items donated to be auctioned off through out the weekend. The proceeds from these auctions will be donated to our brothers and sisters at Standing Rock fighting to protect our water. Donations will be used for food, blankets, medical items, and other necessities. Below are some pictures and descriptions of the donated items. Thank you to those who took the time to make these items for a good cause!
